If We Were Having Coffee – Year End Edition

December 30, 2016 by robincharmagne 8 Comments

robincharmagne-drinking-coffee
Happy New Year’s Eve eve,
Last blog post of the year and I’m sharing my thoughts on 2016. I’m having my fave, Dunkin Donuts Original Blend, a good cup of joe!

1 – This year was challenging, terrifying, heartbreaking with the loss of loved ones – but I’m still here and stronger.
2 – You need sister-friends to lean on in tough times. Some days spent crying uncontrollably, wondering if the tears will ever end. Some days spent just talking and remembering. Whatever I needed, they were there and I love these girls forever.
3 – Actions speak louder than words. Some folk yak all the time about what they are going to do, want to do, thinking about doing and never do a dayum thing. It is not what people say, it is what they DO!
4 – Travel is my therapy. Opening the mind and heart to other cultures makes you more appreciative, patient, curious and less judgemental. God created this whole big world, why not see as much as possible.
5 – It’s cliche, but everyday is a chance to start anew and January 1, 2017 is no different. It’s never to late to start or finish. Go!

1. Inkwell Press Planner – Comes in bound and spiral with two formats – $34 – $54
2. The Happy Planner – Disc bound with loads of extra accessories, i.e. sticker books, washi tape, hole puncher etc. – $20 – $40
3. Recollections Planner – new player in the game but sooo many accessories that are hitting Michael’s stores right now – $30
4. Sugar Paper Planner – lovely functional planner for appointments with space to jot down things to do, email, and buy – $15
5. My Dream Year Planner – Designed by blogger Bernetta Style, another new player to the planning world, but chocked full of tools (vision/mission statements, book list, and affirmations) to plan and execute your goals for 2017 – $20

3 Reasons This Election Matters – Monday Musing

November 7, 2016 by robincharmagne 4 Comments

vote-in-is-election-robincharmagne
Hello pretties,
So today’s post is a tad bit different for robincharmagne, but this election is so important that I wanted to share with you my lovely readers why you MUST vote in this election. Don’t worry, this will not be a dissertation because for me there are 3 good reasons to vote!

3 Reasons

Local elections
Of course the big vote is for the President, but local elections impact our everyday life. For example, in my county we are electing a new Sheriff. As a citizen, that job is crucial to our community and I want to have a say in who is protecting our county and their views on community policing.

The Supreme Court
Yep, see there is a good chance the next the President will nominate 3 to 4 Supreme Court Justices. Why is this important? Supreme Court decisions affect our daily life – voter ID laws, gun control, a woman’s right to choose, immigration, etc.! If any of these things matter to you, then you better vote for the Presidential candidate that most closely shares your views.

YOU
It is a right, an honor, and a privilege and let’s just be real women and minorities had to fight and die, yes die for this right! So no excuses!

I voted early and there was excitement at the polls, everyone was ready to do their civic duty. I do not care if you vote for HIM or HER. Just vote!

So just for fun, what are you wearing to the poll? Happy voting!

5 Things To Know About Losing A Loved One

August 29, 2016 by robincharmagne 14 Comments

losing-loved-ones-robincharmagne
Hello pretties,
Oh my, it has been soooo long since I posted. I am so happy to be back with you my lovely readers and friends, missed ya’ lots. Life has been quite challenging with the passing of my Sister and the recent passing of my Dad. A loved one’s passing is a sad time, but a very busy time for you and your family as you plan for their homecoming. This isn’t a sad post, but I wanted to share some observations to help. As my Daddy always said, “You can’t stay here!” so all of us will go through this process and maybe someone will find these tidbits helpful.

On Losing A Loved One

1. Have a conversation with parents, siblings, aunts, etc. about final plans. Yes I know, don’t nobody want to talk about that stuff. But, believe me, it takes a load off of you and your family to know someone’s last wishes. For years, my sister and I wanted pink caskets, that’s just real talk. I felt good knowing we could honor her wishes. Have the talk and right it down – including wills and services.
2. People will offer all kinds of help, accept it!! One of my friends offered to cut my grass. I was raised to be a strong, independent woman, but when things like this happen, you need help and people want to help. Most women take care of everybody else, take the superwoman cape off and let folk take care of you. Made all the difference for me.
3. It is expensive – limos, dove releases, urns, flowers, programs, that stuff adds up. But don’t get stressed about these details. Remember tip #1? Well it helps with this tip because you would have had the conversation about the service, memorial or whatever your loved one wanted. Sticker shock averted.
4. Not everyone will be kind. This was a shocker for me. My phone was blowing up and many days I did not answer it. Most everyone understood and did not take it personally. They just kept calling and texting. I had one person to respond negatively, I addressed it and moved on. No time for other people’s stuff. Appreciate the folks that understand grief. They will keep calling and texting until you are ready!
5. There are no rules to grieving. Some days, you might cry all day. Some days you might go on as if things haven’t changed. Do YOU! Do not let anybody tell you how to grieve. For me, prayer and meditation have made the pain of loss easier to bear.

We are missing my Dad something awful. He was such a cool dude, for real. 100% straight shooter with a love of politics, history, music (#1 Ray Charles Fan), NASCAR, drag racing and most of all, The Corvette, America’s sport car. We will keep his memory in our hearts.

dad-robincharmgne

See, told you it would not be a sad post! Thank you so much for your condolences, very much appreciated. This is all part of the Cycle of Life that we all share.

I am back to a regular schedule of posting at least 3 times a week of fashion, home decor, travel and all kinds of stuff in between! And the 4th blogaversary for robincharmagne is right around the corner, look for some fun stuff.

Have a fab week pretties!

Truth And Love – Remembering Nickey

June 20, 2016 by robincharmagne 20 Comments

me and nickey - Copy

Hello pretties,
Truth and Love is on my mind today. I have missed you, my lovely friends and I am glad to be back. Life hit me and my family with a sledge hammer. Last year I posted about my sister Nickey’s cancer and sadly, she transitioned from this life. Today I want to tell you my little sister.

I have said many times Nickey was my real life baby doll. Me and my twin John were never mad at having a little sister. We have adored and spoiled her from day one. I want to leave you with two things about my sister Nickey:

First, Nickey was a truth teller. If y’all remember the episode of The Real Housewives Atlanta, when Sheree said, “Who gon check me boo?” Well Nickey was my checker, because she would as they say keep it 100 and she did just that. Rather than let me veer down a bad path, she would tell me my poop stinked. She called you on your stuff, never with a mean spirit or with malice, but done with so much humor. Nickey really should have been a comedian! Like my Mama, she was naturally funny and with a quick wit. I do believe she missed her calling. It is a blessing to have someone in your life who makes you a better person.

Second, Nickey touched a lot of people, she loved people. I cannot tell you how many times we would be on the phone and she would be telling me about somebody she met at Family Dollar and how she had inspired, motivated, or encouraged a random person in the span of 5 minutes in the checkout line. Nickey was afraid to show love to a total stranger. She could look beyond people’s faults and see their best parts. Non-judgemental. It is a blessing to have someone in your life who loves all of you, flaws and all.

Nickey was really a unique person with a booming personality. Like a cross between Lola Falana and Xena Warrior Princes. It seems like I just talked to her and now she is gone. I have heard people say they have a hole in their heart with the loss of a loved one. And, I don’t think I really quite got it. Like most of us, I would say my condolences, but not until now do I understand that feeling of sadness and loss. I have a hole in my heart. But, I have resolved to take my sister’s gifts of truth and love and put them in that hole to honor her memory. I will miss my baby doll. Rest in peace Nickey!

Things Are Not What They Seem

April 6, 2015 by robincharmagne 15 Comments

Hello there,
Did everyone enjoy this holiday weekend? Things are getting so dicey in The A with the weather. I mean it’s April and yesterday was downright cool. I started that mini Spring cleaning I mentioned to you all on Friday and gifted my sister with a ton of clothes, some still with tags. She was thrilled and I have much-needed room in my closets. Then I headed to my folks for Easter dinner. I love seeing my nieces all decked out in their Easter dresses – a really fun day with the family. But speaking of family, today’s post is about a humorous situation but of course, there’s a lesson tucked in there too.

OK so I’ve had this lil blog for 3 years this September and one of the first things I purchased was a tripod for all my pictures.

Blessings Are All Around

March 30, 2015 by robincharmagne 14 Comments

Hi Pretties,
The last two days of March, yikes. I really don’t know where the month went nor all that was said and done. But, I will remember these last few days of March because I have truly been blessed by some real talk from some good people.

I will tell y’all, I’m not a big church go-er, nothing against going, just haven’t found a church home. But I am Christian and believe the Bible is the word of God. God always speaks to me through other people. When I have some dilemma or problem that is keeping me up at night or causing me stress or when I just need clarity, a beautiful soul comes along and gives me a good word. This happened twice in the last 3 days – unbelievable. One conversation with a long time friend, who is really more like family, who shared a good word on overcoming fear. Fear can seriously hold you hostage, but he reminded me that things will never be perfect as a matter of fact, things may be down right screwed up but just go for it anyway. I keep waiting for the right time, the right amount of money, the planets to line up, just any reason to stay in that fear mindset. There is no right time, the time is NOW. And seriously in 10 minutes, we started a business venture. What what? Yep, slapped fear in the face and did the darn thing.

Then, on Sunday I attended a brunch with some awesome bloggers in The A. The brunch spot was Local Three and it was really nice, sorta rustic, the food and service were outstanding.
robincharmagne-at-blogger-brunch-blessings

OK, soooo I really didn’t want to go and all morning I kept coming up with reasons not to go, but I’m so glad I did. The energy was so positive and supportive and honest. And here again, I had been thinking about blogging and was having so much doubt about moving my blog to the next level when another good word came from blogger goddess Marie Denee at The Curvy Fashionista who said follow your purpose and walk and how she had the same doubts and fears and stepped out on faith! She was “preaching” today and it was so refreshing to hear her speak authentically. And at the end of the day, that is the bottom line, be you, be faithful, believe what God says about YOU. I felt so blessed and honored to be among these blogger friends, walking in their purpose – Cheryl our hostess, at The KaShonna Files Louida at Product Review Mom, Nadeen at The Sophislife, and last but not least Shanti at Candidly Shanti! Check these ladies out, they rock!

I’ve heard people say God doesn’t speak to them; He does but you have to be open to listening and receiving. Lord I hear and I receive!

Have you been blessed or been a blessing lately? Tell me about it!
