How To Add Style To House Plants

May 29, 2018 by robincharmagne 8 Comments

Hello pretties,
My Mom loves playing in the dirt with flowers, trees, mulch and such, but she can really grow house plants. I like yard work too but I was never really into house plants until I was gifted a peace lily a couple of years ago. The peace lily is a super popular and inexpensive house plant with pretty white blooms. I took pretty good care of it until I went on vacation and when I came back, she had pretty much died. I watered here and stuff but she was gone. So off to Lowe’s I went shopping for a new plant – looking for something super hardy that, like a cat, could take care of itself for the most part LOL. I found this beauty, a chinese evergreen. The tag on it said plants of steel and that you could go on a two week vacation and the plant would be fine. Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. I like this plant, it has large, dark green leaves and she has been thriving!

Now I love the heavy decorative pot I have her living in right now and the dark color works well with my living room, but I really want something with more oomph, more jazzy, so I started looking for ideas. I saw this stand on my favorite idea source Houzz! The elegance and height of this plant stand adds something special to a simple space.

Shop Plant Stands

This house plant styling is pretty fancy in this home but a stand is the look I am going for with this plant vs. just sitting it in a pot. My favorite are the metal stands, which are good for adding texture to a room. The two choices from the Target Threshold collection are really nice and affordable. Do you have any house plants and how do you display them in your home?

P.S. The peace lily might be making a comeback…saw some tiny greenery on it!

Plaid Christmas – Home Decor

November 22, 2016 by robincharmagne 2 Comments

Hello pretties,
Last week’s plaid OOTD inspired today’s post. This beautiful criss-crossed horizontal and vertical fabric comes in a variety of colors but most popular for the holidays is the red and green pattern. You can easily incorporate plaid into your home decor. I have handpicked some holiday home decor pieces in plaid, take a peek…

So many options to choose from – traditional red/green, red/green/black or even pastel plaids. A Christmas tree adorned in plaid ornaments or ribbon is perfect. Another easy option is a candle packaged in plaid fabric, very subtle. But my favorite is a plaid tablescape with a table runner, plates, or napkins in this festive print. I am in love with this vignette from Houzz.

Fall Home Decor Accents

September 27, 2016 by robincharmagne 8 Comments

fall-accents-on-robincharmagne

Hello pretties,
Fall? Well it doesn’t feel like Fall just yet in The A. Mild temps and sunny days are okay by me. But you can still add some accents to make your home feel more like Fall. Last post we talked about pillows and today I hand picked other types of accents for this season, take a peek…

Love the variety of Fall themes – pumpkins, leaves, pine-cones and nuts are just a few choices. And don’t limit the sprucing up to just the living room or a den. It is perfectly OK to add accents to the kitchen, dining room, or a bedroom. Fall hand towels in the bath are really cute too. To add interest, pick an accent with texture like an iron piece or burlap. Also, experiment with color – yellows, browns, oranges, burgundys, greens, even a black are good choices. These goodies are priced from $6 to $60 bucks, very affordable.

What colors put you in a Fall frame of mind?

Forest Beds – More Or Less

October 13, 2015 by robincharmagne 4 Comments

bed-shopping-on-robincharmagne

Hello,
How’s everyone doing? I worked yesterday but if you had a day of rest, I hope you made the most of it! Today we are talking home decor costs. I posted about money not being a factor in decorating. But, there’s a flip side to that statement because there are times when you may want to spend more on a home decor item. For today’s More Or Less, take a peek at these beds.

Now these are some fancy pants beds. They are canopy beds in a rustic style with whimsical details reminiscent of a forest. The head-board and the foot-board are quite ornate with life-like leaves and branches. One of these beds is over $5,000 and one is over $10,000. Yes ma’am that is some mega money for a place to sleep, but there are some occasions where you may splurge on a home decor item that is custom-made or has a unique design. If you consider that you will spend an exorbitant amount of time in your bedroom, then you should make that room aesthetically pleasing.

We talked about price points and even among higher end items, it pays to do your homework. In this example, you can save at least $5,000 by purchasing the lesser priced bed in a similar design. Did you guess which bed is less than $10,000?

Money Is No Object

September 8, 2015 by robincharmagne 10 Comments

Hello,
Another holiday under our belts! With a few more around the corner, I am anxiously awaiting the holiday season – so many opportunities to freshen up your home and money is no object – for real. Decorating is just like fashion, it can be super affordable or super expensive. There are almost always reasonably priced options for a table, chair, fabric or even art. You can decorate your pretty spaces without spending a ton of money. Now don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with spending a grip to make your space you own. But it isn’t a requirement for having a pretty home. Heck you don’t even have to have all new stuff. Don’t forget those sentimental home accents that are unique to you and your family. The changing season is an excellent time to add a few accents around the home. They can be as low-cost as some gourds or pumpkins on a mantle or pumpkin scented candles. You could really try either one of these ideas for less than $10, seriously.

Pillow Talk

April 8, 2014 by robincharmagne Leave a Comment

pillows, novelty pillows

one//two//three//four//five//six//seven//eight//nine//ten//eleven//twelve//thirteen

Hi,
Hope your day is going well. The Internet is a little wonkie this morning, going up and down sporadically, so I jumped on while it is still up and running. Home Decor is another love along with fashion and travel, so I’m devoting Tuesdays to home decor, bringing you lots of tips and trends for your abode! Today I’ve curated some pillow choices that are an easy, inexpensive or expensive, way to accent the look of a room. A pillow can perfectly match your decor or reflect your personality. Like cycling, add a bike pillow. You’re an 80’s baby, how about a boombox pillow. Or if you love monogramming like I do, try an initial pillow with a pretty border. The range of possibilities is endless and will work in any decor. My favorite is #11, the chandelier, which can be a very formal or laid back motif.

Do you use pillows in your decor? What’s your fave from the collection?

Have a Happy Weekend lovelies!
