Guest Post – Tidy Up Gal

Of course, we want to know, what inspired you to start your own blog?


I’ve had about three or four blogs before tidyupgal.com, but I started Tidy-Up Gal after reading a book called Quitter by Jon Acuff. It really helped me zone in on the things I enjoy doing without much effort, and one of those things was home organizing. I also enjoy blogging, so I combined those two things and Tidy-Up Gal was born. I only started a little over a year ago and have received so much love and support both on the blog and via real life clients who have asked me to organize their homes. I’ve also gotten encouragement and support from bloggers including you, so thank you!

It seems we do everything on our phones now, what is your favorite and most used phone app, outside of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram?

I actually dedicated an entire post to my calendar app!
I love that thing. I may organize the heck out of a home, but I’m not so great with my time and I end up double booking myself. My calendar app keeps me on track.

What’s on your DVR now?

I don’t have a DVR, but I am currently watching 24 for the first time and wondering, “why didn’t anyone tell me how awesome this show is?!” That show has my mind churning every single episode.

Nail polish is all the rage, if you were nail polish, what color would you be?


I’m experimenting a little bit with bright colors, but I tend to lean towards almost-nude/light pink colors. I think they look better on me.

Blogging is a full-time job so when you need down time, what is your favorite vacation spot?

I haven’t taken a real vacation in a very long time! I’m planning one at the moment, but my quick “vacation” spot is my local Starbucks. I take my laptop and a good book or some magazines and just relax/people watch.

What inspired you to start your own blog?

I am very passionate about travel. When I would take trips and post photos on my social media accounts, I often had friends comment that they “wish” they could travel too. I wanted to start a blog to show people you don’t have to “wish” that you can travel well in luxury accommodations (if desired) for affordable prices. I also think is important no matter your relationship or financial status to see the world and take a well earned vacation. Its my hope through my experiences, tips and resources offered via my blog it will encourage more people to travel

What are three things you love about your city?

I’ve lived in Chicago for 5 years, what I love about this city is:diversity of people, lifestyles and culture, the lakefront, especially in the summertime, and shopping – from high end departments stores on Michigan Ave to thrift stores and boutiques Chicago has great shopping

What trend are you seriously crushing on right now and where would you buy it?

I’m not a trendy kinda girl fashion wise but I currently love peplum blouses and dresses and ASOS is my go to place to purchase them!

What inspired you to start your own blog?

A few friends of mine had their own blogs that I read and loved. I was dying for a new creative outlet, so I figured I could do my own blog and make it a sort of like a digital journal. It has evolved a little from that initial idea, but is still a huge creative outlet for me

I cannot leave home without my…lip product,(lipstick, lip gloss, chap stick, etc.) I cannot leave the house with dry lips. In my purse, I have a normal makeup bag that contains mascara, eyeliner, etc. and a “lip bag” that only contains lip products. At this very moment there are 12 different lip items in that bag. You might say I have a slight addiction

Who is your celebrity crush?

Drew Brees, Quarterback for the New Orleans Saints NFL team. Does he qualify as a celebrity? He’s the total package of good looks, great ability and great personality. And, he just seems like an all-around great guy

What are three things you love about your city?

I live in Charlotte, NC. Charlotte is a great mix of small town and big city. We have a lot of “big city” things like Ikea, professional sports teams and lots of big events. But it’s small enough that the traffic isn’t THAT bad…well, it’s not as bad as Atlanta’s traffic, at least (I kid!!) and you often see people you know…like you would in a small town. The other thing I love about Charlotte is the location. I’m 3 hours from the beach and 2 hours from the mountains. Our location also gives us great mild weather and four actual seasons

If you were a pair of shoes, you’d be…

These shoes. They are flats (which I love) and practical. But they also have a bit of sass and drama with the studded bow. I actually got these for Christmas and LOVE them
