Hello pretties,
Celebrating to auspicious occasions today, The birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the 110th Founders’ Day of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Given the current climate in our country, I thought this quote was most appropriate. I am just wondering how long will it take or what will have to happen before some people speak up??? In the spirit of what Dr. King stood for, serve your community today in whatever capacity you can, just do something to improve your community!

Little Dresses For Africa – Good Cause

Hello pretties,
Little Dresses for Africa is an organization that is near and dear to my heart. As I read the email for this project, I got all teary eyed. I knew this was a service project I would be all over. Growing up a true girly girl, my Mama loved dressing me and my sister in frilly dresses with patent leather mary janes, ruffle socks and grosgrain ribbon in our hair. Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of working along side my sorority sisters to make dresses for this worthy cause. Every little girl deserves to feel cute and special in a new dress. This project was sew easy, get it sew easy. We took a simple pillow case, cut off the top, folded down any ragged edges and then adorned with ribbon or other embellishments. Take a peek…

Summer Dressing

Making these dresses from all kinds of patterned pillow cases and ribbons, reminded me of easy summer dressing with a very popular trend – boho chic. Of course it is hot in Africa, but it gets pretty warm here in the South and you need easy, breezy styles to stay cool. The boho chic look is the perfect little dress for summer. I handpicked some of my faves.

I have had the pleasure of participating in many service projects as an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman, but this was by far my most favorite. I hope you will check out this organization.

AKA women have a reputation for being the “pretty girls” who wear pink and green, rock strands of pearls and have a penchant for flipping our hair, but we are so much more than these stereotypes. Have you heard that studies show that African-American women are creating their own businesses at a higher rate than other female entrepreneurs in the U.S.? Of course the pretty girls are leading the pack. Today marks the 107th anniversary of my illustrious sisterhood, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. The first Greek letter organization for college trained black women, founded January 15, 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC. AKA has a legacy of service to the communities we serve. The sorority encompasses so much more than pink and green, skeewee, and step shows. With more than 265,000 members, we work to address the needs of others in the areas of Educational Enrichment, Health Promotion, Family Strengthening, Environmental Ownership. and Global Impact. We hear the call to serve, and we answer!

29 years and I am Oh So honored to be a part of this esteemed organization.

The Pretty Girls Turn Jacksonville Pink And Green
