It’s Your Birthday

Hi Pretties,
I guess having a big birthday this year really has me tuned into birthdays. I’m seeing a trend, everybody gets showered with love and well wishes on their birthday – emails, texts, FB updates, cards, the works. The birthday diva or dude feels awesome and appreciated. But I’m wondering…shouldn’t we love on folks all the time, shouldn’t we celebrate life everyday? Don’t get me wrong. The day God blessed us to be on this planet is a great day, but let’s experience that joy everyday. Give a compliment, do a favor, say I love you, or heck I like you! Everyday is a birthday! Like a rebirth, another chance to live this Life. So…. it’s Your birthday! Enjoy, happy birthday today and everyday! Love and Light!

Let’s Go… Atlanta

The Labor Day Holiday is almost here, sort of the last hurrah for Summer, before the days get shorter and Fall is upon us! Great time for that last road-trip. What makes a road-trip great?
1) Pick a city that is not far away – four hours or less
2) Go lean – pick a city that won’t break the bank
3) Don’t plan every second of the trip – leave time to just wander and discover something special
4) Get a map, GPS can be unreliable
5)Check your tire pressure – low tires use more gas

Atlanta

So where are you going? Well if you’re close by Atlanta is a great getaway spot for a 3-day weekend. I’ve curated some of my favorite spots, new and old, around Atlanta. Atlanta is a mix of southern charm and city sophistication. Rich in history and culture, from the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement, Atlanta has been at the center of historic moments in our country’s history. Did you know Atlanta is 177 years old, yep. There is a never-ending list of attractions, restaurants and shopping in Atlanta – you won’t be bored. So if you are near The A, do drop in and remember we only drink two things in Atlanta Coke or Sweet Tea! Welcome to The A!

Travel Day is one of my favorite days of the week. When I first launched this series, we started with passports because I knew in addition to our day trips and weekend getaways, we would travel to some faraway places too. I confess I am not a beauty product expert but airplanes are notoriously dry and not always spic and span. So today I’ve curated 7 must have beauty products perfect for traveling longer distances.

Travel Beauty Products

One – Longchamp is the granddaddy of travel bags and this one is large enough to fit all of these travel beauty goodies
Two – Before you deplane, freshen up with Colgate Wisps – toothpaste, mouthwash, and floss all in one
Three – Keep your face fresh with a good hydrating spray like this travel size MAC Mini-fix
Four – When you’re ready to eat that delicious airline meal, you need hand sanitizer and the Jao brand is made mostly with all natural ingredients
Five – Visine eye drops soothes those tired travel eyes and protects them from the dry air
Six – A tried and true beauty product is Rosebud Salve which is for the lips and hands, especially cuticles
Seven – Planes are a bit nasty, so wipe everything down with Wet Wipes

Hi Pretties,
Today is my Friday, so I’m all smiles! But a little sad too, my last Birchbox for 2013. Last year I suggested a subscription service as a great holiday gift that keeps on giving. I chose Birchbox and for $10 each month I receive a box of goodies related to health and beauty. It’s like having a personal shopper to go out and try these goodies and send you the best of the best. The products are sample size, but definitely usable and you can buy the full size products on the site. Now one aspect of Birchbox I didn’t use much this year and really should have was the Points Program. You can leave a review for each product to get points on your account and translate those points into dollars to buy products.

This month’s theme is Sparkle and Shine for the holidays. I don’t really see the how the products reflect the theme but I do like the moisturizer that’s also a makeup remover. Birchbox introduced Cynthia Rowley’s makeup line and the Birchbox mobile app so that’s good news.

For the most part, I have happily ran to the mailbox to snag some awesome products, but towards the end of the year, the boxes were less “Wow!” and more “What?”. Hi Pretties,
Halloween is actually my least favorite holiday of the year. I’ve lived in this house for 12 years and I’ve never given out a morsel of candy. The kiddos are super cute in their costumes but all that dang door bell ringing and yelling “trick or treat” is just not my thing. But since I do love treats, I have a treat for you all, my lovely readers…my first Holiday Giveaway. Woot Woot! Happy Friday Pretties,
As always, love to see Friday! This week ended on a good note as the Federal Government is back to work! Woohoo!! Today’s Friday Faves are 5 things for the working girl!

No big political rant here, but the whole thing appeared to be much ado about nothing. Not sure what was accomplished. But anyhoo, guys and dolls are back to work and I’m happy for them, with back pay. Awesome!

What are your essentials for work? My vote? A great shoe can make or break even the best outfit. Of course it should be on trend, but most importantly, the fit is critical for the health of your feet. Try it on, walk around on a solid surface if possible to make sure it is really comfortable for walking around the office. And, if it really feels good, snag it in more than one color or fabric if possible.
