Bible-journal-robincharmagne

Hello pretties,
April is a month of renewal and I thought it would be the perfect time to share with you, my lovely readers Bible Journaling. Bible Journaling

Joanne Fink and Regina Yoder, the creators of Complete Guide to Bible Journaling: Creative Techniques to Express Your Faith, have created a beautiful guide for documenting our thoughts on faith. It’s another way to further think about a particular scripture, parable, religious figure – digging deeper if you will. To get you started, there are prompts – checkout page 9. You can use a variety tools; for example, washi tape, stickers, die-cuts, watercolor paints, hand lettering, etc. And, there is no wrong or right in bible journaling. But if that wasn’t enough, there is a gallery of real life examples of bible journaling for inspiration. The bonus goodies in the back are amazing – vellum for tracing designs, stickers, tabs, and much more.

This guide is the perfect tool to start bible journaling, with vibrant illustrations and lots of extras! I love this guide so much, I have one to gift to a lucky reader. Hop on over to my Instagram for all the deets.

Do you journal?

P.S. This is a great Mother’s Day gift!

Elections, Protests, Petitions Oh My – 5 Ways To Tame Stress!

January 23, 2017 by robincharmagne 16 Comments

how-to-destress-robincharmagne

Hey Pretties,
Are you feeling at all stressed by the events of the past few days? The news is full of unrest at a time when we as a nation should be hopeful. I know a lot of folks are feeling uncertain about the future and frankly stressing the hell out. So let’s get some strategies to de-stress!

1 – Lean on your faith, whatever that is for you and your family. Get active in your place of worship through volunteerism. Focusing on the needs of someone less fortunate is a great way to take your mind off of all the craziness while helping someone else.
2 – Try yoga – meditation to ease your mind, improved breathing, more flexibility, and faster metabolism are just a few of the mental and physical benefits of yoga. Need more motivation? Nothing like a cute yoga mat to get you in your first downward dog.
3 – Write it down – start journaling. An excellent way to sort out your thoughts and feelings. This one is so pretty you will want to write in it everyday.
4 – Talk it out! Invite friends over for a political pow-wow where you can hear the views of like minded folks and create a safe place for everyone to just vent. And, leave the cell phones at the door so you focus on the conversation.
5 – You really don’t like the political environment? Mid-term elections are next year – November 6th to be exact. Get involved with your local elected officials so you can make a difference. You can find them here and here.

Listen, it is not the end of the world…at least I don’t think so. Instead of stressing over every news cast or tweet, get in action. I’m feeling better already!

What do you do to de-stress in uncertain times?

Hello pretties,
Change is necessary. Real talk, the last 3 months have been otherworldly. The emotions and questions are a part of my daily routine, weighing heavy on my heart. All this loss, a new normal I am finding hard to stomach. Something has to give…something has to change. My niece said, “Tee-tee, cut your hair!” And that is exactly what I did, take a peek…

5 Things To Know About Losing A Loved One

August 29, 2016 by robincharmagne 14 Comments

losing-loved-ones-robincharmagne
Hello pretties,
Oh my, it has been soooo long since I posted. I am so happy to be back with you my lovely readers and friends, missed ya’ lots. Life has been quite challenging with the passing of my Sister and the recent passing of my Dad. A loved one’s passing is a sad time, but a very busy time for you and your family as you plan for their homecoming. This isn’t a sad post, but I wanted to share some observations to help. As my Daddy always said, “You can’t stay here!” so all of us will go through this process and maybe someone will find these tidbits helpful.

On Losing A Loved One

1. Have a conversation with parents, siblings, aunts, etc. about final plans. Yes I know, don’t nobody want to talk about that stuff. But, believe me, it takes a load off of you and your family to know someone’s last wishes. For years, my sister and I wanted pink caskets, that’s just real talk. I felt good knowing we could honor her wishes. Have the talk and right it down – including wills and services.
2. People will offer all kinds of help, accept it!! One of my friends offered to cut my grass. I was raised to be a strong, independent woman, but when things like this happen, you need help and people want to help. Most women take care of everybody else, take the superwoman cape off and let folk take care of you. Made all the difference for me.
3. It is expensive – limos, dove releases, urns, flowers, programs, that stuff adds up. But don’t get stressed about these details. Remember tip #1? Well it helps with this tip because you would have had the conversation about the service, memorial or whatever your loved one wanted. Sticker shock averted.
4. Not everyone will be kind. This was a shocker for me. My phone was blowing up and many days I did not answer it. Most everyone understood and did not take it personally. They just kept calling and texting. I had one person to respond negatively, I addressed it and moved on. No time for other people’s stuff. Appreciate the folks that understand grief. They will keep calling and texting until you are ready!
5. There are no rules to grieving. Some days, you might cry all day. Some days you might go on as if things haven’t changed. Do YOU! Do not let anybody tell you how to grieve. For me, prayer and meditation have made the pain of loss easier to bear.

We are missing my Dad something awful. He was such a cool dude, for real. 100% straight shooter with a love of politics, history, music (#1 Ray Charles Fan), NASCAR, drag racing and most of all, The Corvette, America’s sport car. We will keep his memory in our hearts.

dad-robincharmgne

See, told you it would not be a sad post! Thank you so much for your condolences, very much appreciated. This is all part of the Cycle of Life that we all share.

I am back to a regular schedule of posting at least 3 times a week of fashion, home decor, travel and all kinds of stuff in between! And the 4th blogaversary for robincharmagne is right around the corner, look for some fun stuff.

Have a fab week pretties!

Truth And Love – Remembering Nickey

June 20, 2016 by robincharmagne 20 Comments

me and nickey - Copy

Hello pretties,
Truth and Love is on my mind today. I have missed you, my lovely friends and I am glad to be back. Life hit me and my family with a sledge hammer. Last year I posted about my sister Nickey’s cancer and sadly, she transitioned from this life. Today I want to tell you my little sister.

I have said many times Nickey was my real life baby doll. Me and my twin John were never mad at having a little sister. We have adored and spoiled her from day one. I want to leave you with two things about my sister Nickey:

First, Nickey was a truth teller. If y’all remember the episode of The Real Housewives Atlanta, when Sheree said, “Who gon check me boo?” Well Nickey was my checker, because she would as they say keep it 100 and she did just that. Rather than let me veer down a bad path, she would tell me my poop stinked. She called you on your stuff, never with a mean spirit or with malice, but done with so much humor. Nickey really should have been a comedian! Like my Mama, she was naturally funny and with a quick wit. I do believe she missed her calling. It is a blessing to have someone in your life who makes you a better person.

Second, Nickey touched a lot of people, she loved people. I cannot tell you how many times we would be on the phone and she would be telling me about somebody she met at Family Dollar and how she had inspired, motivated, or encouraged a random person in the span of 5 minutes in the checkout line. Nickey was afraid to show love to a total stranger. She could look beyond people’s faults and see their best parts. Non-judgemental. It is a blessing to have someone in your life who loves all of you, flaws and all.

Nickey was really a unique person with a booming personality. Like a cross between Lola Falana and Xena Warrior Princes. It seems like I just talked to her and now she is gone. I have heard people say they have a hole in their heart with the loss of a loved one. And, I don’t think I really quite got it. Like most of us, I would say my condolences, but not until now do I understand that feeling of sadness and loss. I have a hole in my heart. But, I have resolved to take my sister’s gifts of truth and love and put them in that hole to honor her memory. I will miss my baby doll. Rest in peace Nickey!

CONSISTENT…Word For 2016

January 25, 2016 by robincharmagne 22 Comments

consistent-on-robincharmagne (2)
Hello,
Hope everyone’s weekend was great and that you were able to stay safe and warm. We had a snow event that was uneventful, maybe two inches but of course, it shut everything down…LOL Doesn’t bother me a bit. One thing that is consistent in The A is that ice/snow brings a mad dash for milk and bread. This happens every time we have any hint of snowflakes. It made me think about that word. We do the same thing every year at this time with the same results – we are all safe and sound at home. Being consistent is a good thing, so it’s my word for 2016.

consistent-on-robincharmagne

This word is the building block for being successful at almost anything – when you read, write, run, exercise, paint, blog, pray, etc. on a regular basis, you will become good at it. Now notice I didn’t say perfect at it, but good. Perfection is not the goal! The goal is to commit and to do some things day in and day out to realize success. I am committing to consistent healthy eating – check on Weight Watchers, saying yes to things that scare me – check said yes to a Thursday night date just last week, and performing tidy tasks every night – check tidying the house from 7:00 – 8:00.

Need a picture of what being consistent looks like? Now she doesn’t win all the the time, but she wins on a consistent basis and that is so fabulous and we are on a path to being fabulously consistent!

You can read about my word for 2015. It really made a difference in how I approached opportunities in 2015.

Do you have a word or a phrase for 2016?

motivational-reads-on-robincharmage

Hello,
Welcome back! The holidays are all behind us – no carols, eggnog, or fireworks. However, do you just love that New Year smell? 2016 is all fresh and clean, just waiting for us to put our mark on it. The beginning of the year is the time when we start new goals, new projects, and dare I say new resolutions. However, what if you just cannot get your rumpus in gear? I have just the ticket, three motivational reads to light a fire in you to get ish done! These books are all very different in their topics and approach, but each one will definitely help you get clear on moving forward in 2016. Now I did not read all three, I love Audible and actually listened to two of them via Audible! Nevertheless, the lessons learned were pretty darn good, take a read…
