5 Reasons To Watch The Walking Dead

February 15, 2016 by robincharmagne 8 Comments

the_walking_dead_robincharmagne

Hello,
I hope your Love Day was full of love! Today is the President’s Day holiday; however, I am working and not complaining about it! Let’s talk television – The Walking Dead. Season 6 premiered last night and reminded me why I love this show. So if you don’t know about The Walking Dead, it is an apocalyptic adventure that follows a mixed bag of survivors as they try to navigate this new and crazy world full of good guys, bad guys, and yeah zombies or as they are affectionately known walkers. Let me tell you what brings me back to AMC on Sunday nights at 9…

1. The Walking Dead is filmed in and around Atlanta and other parts of Georgia – the Hollywood of the South. Did you know Georgia was number 4 in movie/television filming in the U.S.? Being a native Atlantan, it thrills me to see my hometown week after week and learn about new towns like the infamous Woodbury home to the prison that was central to seasons 3 and 4
2. Strong female characters are significant to the show. Michonne, Carol, Maggie, and Sasha do not run and fall down and have to be saved in stereotypical girl fashion. No ma’am, they pull out their revolver, katana, or hammer and fight back and they do the saving. It is so refreshing to see women characters that lead, make decisions and exhibit strength and courage when faced with the impossible
3. This show is not afraid to take chances. You remember the days when a leading character could pretty much count on getting a check every episode? With this show, key characters and fan favorites get killed off as with my most loved Hershel in season 4. I shed some crocodile tears when they killed him off the show. I always say, if you get cast for TWD, don’t make any major purchases because you could get axed in any episode
4. You know a show is good when it has its own after party, hosted by Chris Hardwick. The Talking Dead airs right after the show with special celebrity guests and analyzes the previous episode. Funny and informative with sneak peeks and deep conversations, it is a must see after the show. You can even call in with questions
5. What The Walking Dead does best is force us to ask tough questions. Who would you be in this environment? We would love to think we would maintain 100% of ourselves, our humanity. But, as they say desperate times call for desperate measures. Could you kill, maim, bamboozle, and defend strangers to survive? What role would your faith play?

Repeatedly, I have said this show is not about zombies at all – in fact, they are somewhat anecdotal to the show. Last night confirmed that The Walking Dead is an ongoing class on how to be a human being. The Alexandria townspeople were deathly afraid of fighting the walkers – remaining locked in their homes without ever killing any walkers. Nevertheless, by the end of the episode, they realized they could not survive without banning together and getting some blood on their hands. In life, you cannot stand on the sidelines and hope to be saved, you have to jump out there and do your part to save yourself and in many cases, save other folk too.

Do you watch The Walking Dead?

what-to-do-october-on-robincharmagne

Hello,
Y’all, September got the heck outta here, for real! I don’t think any month this year went by as fast as September. So, hey October! The holiday season is in full effect – bring on the pumpkins, hot chocolate, and yes cooler weather fashion! Today’s Faves On Friday are all about ways to enjoy the month of October.

1 – Perfect time to get out and take a hike, but you absolutely need some cute boots and they might as well be pink and waterproof
2 – Gas prices are at an all time low in the Southeast, take a road trip to a nearby town and discover something fun and fabulous. Use the AAA Trip Tik Travel Planner to map the best route
3 – Not sure where to go on your road trip, how about a state fair. Oh the turkey legs, funnel cakes, fried anything, ferris wheels and fairway games, good times
4 – This is most definitely snuggle weather so if staying inside is your thing, you are going to need some comfort food. Pull out that pink crock pot and try these Five Ingredient Crock Pot Recipes, yummy
5 – Wrap you and your sweetie up in a cozy pink blanket for some warm and cozy television watching

I love this season! What are you doing for October? Anything fun? Have a fab weekend!

Who’s On Television – Monday Musing

September 28, 2015 by robincharmagne 20 Comments

vintage-television-on-robincharmagne

Hello there,
I am not even going to say it, or rather type it, but y’all know October starts on Thursday right? I swear September is over and for me, it was a blur. However, there were notable events in September – Fashion Week, Football Season, Emmy Awards, Papal Visit, and many television season premiers! Yep a ton of new shows premiered last week, and I caught four of my old favorites and maybe a new favorite. Today’s Monday Musing is about television and might be a bit controversial. Here goes!

Therefore, the television got some serious use as I watched in order – Rosewood, Empire, Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How To Get Away With Murder. I cannot say I was bowled over by any of the season premiers. Rosewood, a new favorite stars Morris Chestnut, he was handsome as ever, and the plot line was not horrible. Of course, the other shows are old favorites and were just okay for me.

However, by Friday, after watching everything, I noticed one consistent element of all 5 shows – a LGBT character or story line. So wait, this post is not for or against anyone’s lifestyle, I am not judging, I got my own ish. This post is about the television landscape in 2015 and your thoughts as television viewers. I thought how is it that every show, including Rosewood, that I watched had that particular story line. For me, I am on the fence. For example on How To Get Away With Murder, it was a twisty kinda thing with Annalise – was not expecting that turn of events. Hmmm, interesting, but explains why the lawyer lady was so emotional about the whole thing.

I like watching these crazy, unpredictable shows. However, I was thinking is this just a sign of the times or do the networks have a specific agenda? Did y’all notice? Does it change the tenor of the shows? Is it necessary? Do parents have any particular issues with LGBT characters or story lines? Perhaps the producers are attempting to have more diverse characters and stories. I do not know…

What did y’all watch? What are your thoughts? Don’t be skeered!!!

The Perfect Guy – Faves On Friday

September 11, 2015 by robincharmagne 16 Comments

dinner-date-robincharmagne-blog

Hello pretties,
Friday, you could not get here soon enough. I have/had plans for the weekend, but y’all know my plans often change. But I’m happy for two days to rest and recharge or not! There is a big movie opening tonight The Perfect Guy – staring Sanaa Lathan, Morris Chestnut, and Michael Ealy. The trailer for this movie was all over social media and I was little disappointed because it revealed the whole dang movie. I know there is a twist and I’m wondering what it might be because that trailer doesn’t leave a lot to the imagination. The movie inspired today’s Faves on Friday – what to wear on a date! I curated two looks one dressy and one more casual.

Dressy

date-night-look-red-dress-robincharmagne

This entire dressy outfit is from Simply Be, a U.K. brand that carries clothes in sizes 8 to 28. There styles are fashion forward with a European twist. Sign up for the “Be Card” Today for 15% off your First Order + Free Shipping on Orders Over $100. The necklace is from Forever 21.

Casual

Look two

vest//t-shirt//jeans//watch//shoes

The second casual look is more my speed and incorporates a big Fall trend, fringe. This vest is an easy way to try the trend. The vest is paired with jeans, a tee, sexy fringe sandals and a funky watch.

Which would you wear on the perfect date?

Have a perfect weekend!

BET Awards Favorite Fashion Recap

June 29, 2015 by robincharmagne 10 Comments

Hello,
Happy Monday and yes to a short week. It has been a minute since I stayed up late watching an awards show, BUT Janet Jackson was receiving a special award last night and I was up until the very end. Janet radiant and gracious! But of course, I tuned in for most of the fashion. The artists that attend the BET Awards are not afraid to take chances with their fashion, no run of the mill designer gowns here. Take a peek at my favorites who expressed their individual style in their own way!…

June 26, 2015 by robincharmagne 6 Comments

Happy Friday,
I hope your week was fab and you stayed cool! It has been a scorcher this week so I am looking forward to a cooler weekend. Dontcha’ love summer! I do because along with summer temps is summer tv! With most of our favorite tv shows e.g. Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, The Good Wife, and The Walking Dead filming for the fall it’s fun, to find new tv shows to watch and some old favorites. Today’s Faves on Friday, are my top tv picks for summer. Take a peek.

Suits – USA Network Wednesday @ 9

I loved this show from the jump! Legal shows always peek my interest and this one is so sleek and sexy. Set in New York, it centers on a law firm with a woman, Jessica Pearson(played by Gina Torres) at the helm, along with Harvey Specter (played by Gabriel Macht). The female characters are not just assistants to the men, they call the shots and play pivotal roles in every episode. On top of that, so dang stylish, those suits Jessica rocks and the dresses that Donna Paulsen (played by Sarah Rafferty) rocks are not your standard office wear, no boring blue suits! Now the men ain’t shabby either, Harvey Specter reminds me of Cary Grant, handsome, smart and dapper, but then can recite lines from all his favorite movies. So Cool! And let’s not forget Mike Ross (played by Patrick J. Adams) who isn’t actually a lawyer but with his photographic memory, he plays one at the firm. Suits fast paced with interesting cases and unique office dynamics.

Complications – USA Network Thursday @ 9

This is kind of a medical show and kind of a crime show. The main character Dr. John Ellison (played by Jason O’Mara) saves the life of a boy involved in a drive by shooting, now the boy just happens to be the son of a drug kingpin, uh huh. The story follows how the Dr. has to keep this boy safe without being killed by gang members. Meanwhile, dealing with the death of his own daughter. I’m two episodes in and I’m hooked.

Mr. Robot – USA Network Wednesday @ 10

Now this show intrigued me because it centers around technology and how the main character Elliot Alderson (played by Rami Malek) is a hacker who hacks for good, if that makes sense. But then he’s solicited by a mysterious group to hack all the big companies that threaten our way of life – like a modern-day Robin Hood. It’s interesting. Elliot is kinda weird, but pulls you in and you know I’m rooting for the good guys to win.

Fear the Walking Dead – AMC Premiere TBD

This show has not aired yet, but I will be watching. It is the prequel for The Walking Dead, what happened before Rick and crew. This show features new characters and is set in Los Angeles, should be awesome and answer some questions like how did the virus start???

Big Brother 17 – CBS Sunday/Wednesday @ 8 and Thursday @ 9

17? Yep I have watched for 17 seasons and I can not let the summer go by without watching the shenanigans on this show. There’s always twists all season and the house-guests live in a house that is always so sick with extreme nautical decor, transparent floors, and cameras in every room, including the bathroom.

Loads of fun! You can see last summer’s picks here, Extant is back, woohoo. Now pull out your favorite summer lounge wear and grab this popcorn set for some great tv nights!

Are you watching these shows? Have a cool weekend!

First Day Of Summer!

June 22, 2015 by robincharmagne 8 Comments

robincharmagne-summer-fun

Hello,
It’s Monday! Hope your Father’s Day was a celebration of the special men in your life! Yesterday was also the first day of Summer! It is time to get out and do some fun stuff. I hope to cross all these things off my list before the end of this season. Now some of these are local and easy to access but there’s a road trip in there too!

1 – I’m a real sci-fi fan, so Dragoncon is a must do. This is closer to the end of summer so I have time to plan my costume – Star Trek, SG-13, or Transformers, not sure yet
2 – In the making for years, the Atlanta Beltline is now a popular spot for Atliens for shopping, dining, and fitness with 22 miles of trails
3 – I haven’t been to the “Curb Market” for years, but I’m hearing so many good things about the new Auburn Sweet Market, especially the Sweet Auburn Bakery
4 – What better way to tour The A than the new Atlanta Streetcar and guess what, it is free for the rest of 2015
5 – Summer means vacation and vacation means summer hair. Love the braided top bun – appointment made
6 – Road trip! To the world’s largest yard sale – oh the bargains to be found, maybe even a million dollar painting
7 – Outdoor movie watching is too much fun and Atlantic Station has a great lineup including two of my faves – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Independence Day
8 – This project is probably not going to happen but this makes me want to get it done, perfect use of the space – clean the garage
9 – Another good time outside is an outdoor concert, and there is no shortage of wonderful venues in Atlanta, perhaps Chastain Park or Wolfcreek, wearing this
10 – This project I will get done, a new gallery wall for the living room

What are you doing this summer?

Pretty In Pink – Rihanna Rocks The Grammy Awards

February 9, 2015 by robincharmagne 7 Comments

Rihanna-pink-dress

Hey my pretties,
Did you gorgeous gals and guys have a great weekend? The A was absolutely pretty this weekend and I took complete advantage of it! And, Rihanna was absolutely pretty in pink at the Grammy Awards. Yeah, I liked the dress. Just loved the color of course but the simplicity and the complexity of this dress was amazing. Simple lines trimmed in silver sequins, with simple hair. But all done in tulle, a complex fabric, one of my favorites. The look and feel of this dress would have been totally different if Giambattista Valli had created this dress in just a silk, or a satin. Rihanna is a fashion icon, as my Mama says, Rihanna could wear a croaker sack (no I don’t know what a croaker sack is) and make a statement. She looked like a princess. I mean she is a Pop Princess so the dress is fitting.

Fashion is all about self-expression and Rihanna is fearless in her choice of styles. We should all be so fearless. You’ll never be comfortable with your fashion choices if you make them with others in mind. Wear what you want and what makes you give yourself a wink in the mirror.

Have you ever been afraid to wear something? Do Tell! I love the crop top look but yeah it scares me!

Superbowl Weekend – Faves On Friday Number 4

January 30, 2015 by robincharmagne 2 Comments

Superbowl 2015

Hi Pretties,
It’s the weekend! But better yet Superbowl Weekend in beautiful Phoenix, Arizona. More chicken wings get sold this weekend than any other weekend of the year. Yes, millions will be hooping and hollering on every fumble, flag on the play, and of course touchdown as the Seattle Seahawks tangle with the New England Patriots. To get ready for the big game, you gotta have some gear. I’ve handpicked some cute goodies for both of these Superbowl teams!

Superbowl Contender – Seattle Seahawks

Superbowl Contender – New England Patriots

Those Dirty Birdz, the Atlanta Falcons, had a kinda bad season – yep new Coach on the way! They didn’t even make the playoffs so the Superbowl was not even a thought. And don’t get me started on this new stadium mess, a whole lotta money for a fancy smancy stadium and we ain’t even make the playoffs. Bye Felecia! I have no skin in this game, but if I have to pick a side, it would be the Seattle Seahawks.

Who ya’ wit??? Have a fun weekend!
