Little Dresses For Africa – Good Cause

June 7, 2016 by robincharmagne 10 Comments

little-dresses-africa-robincharmagne

Hello pretties,
Little Dresses for Africa is an organization that is near and dear to my heart. As I read the email for this project, I got all teary eyed. I knew this was a service project I would be all over. Growing up a true girly girl, my Mama loved dressing me and my sister in frilly dresses with patent leather mary janes, ruffle socks and grosgrain ribbon in our hair. Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of working along side my sorority sisters to make dresses for this worthy cause. Every little girl deserves to feel cute and special in a new dress. This project was sew easy, get it sew easy. We took a simple pillow case, cut off the top, folded down any ragged edges and then adorned with ribbon or other embellishments. Take a peek…

The finished dresses will be shipped to 31 countries in Africa. A blessing to be a blessing to these little girls. If you would like to know more, click here.

Summer Dressing

Making these dresses from all kinds of patterned pillow cases and ribbons, reminded me of easy summer dressing with a very popular trend – boho chic. Of course it is hot in Africa, but it gets pretty warm here in the South and you need easy, breezy styles to stay cool. The boho chic look is the perfect little dress for summer. I handpicked some of my faves.

I have had the pleasure of participating in many service projects as an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman, but this was by far my most favorite. I hope you will check out this organization.

Tell me about your favorite charitable organization or about volunteer work you love!

LEGOLAND-Hotel-robincharmagne

Hello,
Thank you all so much for the love yesterday on my first photo-shoot. I have THE most lovely readers, I appreciate y’all!

So today is my Friday, love a short week. It has been awhile since I’ve posted a Let’s Go, but it’s my vacation month so it’s back. I was totally enchanted, yes enchanted with the LEGOLAND Hotel. Who didn’t play with LEGOs as a kid or stepped on one as an adult? I was totally amazed at this fun vacay spot, perfect for the whole family, take a peek(pic heavy, may load a tad bit slower).

The LEGOLAND Hotel is located in Winter Haven Park, Florida with 152 guest rooms and suites with four unique themes: Pirate, Kingdom, Adventure, and LEGO Friends. There is a free full breakfast every day along with interactive play areas, all day entertainment, a disco elevator, and a pool area complete with LEGO floaters. The kids will love the treasure hunt in every room along with LEGO prizes. But best of all is the workshop where guests can build their own projects with a Master LEGO Model Builder, sign me up! The designers of this hotel have done an amazing job recreating the LEGO vibe. And of course, there is shopping and dining at the LEGOLAND Florida. Add this spot to your summer travel destinations!

Welcome back! It’s good to be back to the blog after a nice holiday break. I had a blast spending much-needed fun time with family and friends and I hope you lovelies did too. Now I know you just finished mega Christmas 2013 shopping, but let’s get ready for Christmas 2014. As much as I like giving cool gifts, it’s so much better when gifting a good deal, so I shop sample sale sites! Today I’m running down a sample of some of my favorite sample sales sites for fashion, home decor, and even travel. You’ll need to apply for membership to receive the daily notification of the upcoming sales (click on the links above). If you like designer goods, sample sale sites are just the ticket. My most favorite site is Beyond The Rack where you’ll find all brands from Coach to Hermes to Cuisinart, a real good variety of brands. Two negatives to these sites is the shipping costs which can be a beast so watch for specials on shipping and the limited number of sales for plus-size fashions; on the positive side, finding new brands rocks and your savings can be as high as 80% for some items. That’s a deal. Start now and take advantage of some great deals all year-long.

Do you shop sample sale sites? If so, what’s your favorite?

Kids doing good!

January 2, 2013 by robincharmagne Leave a Comment

Hello pretties,

The Christmas decorations are down and stored for next year. You shopped the sales and got some great bargains. For 2013, start a new tradition with your kids by having them save coins all year to donate to the charity of their choice at the beginning of each year. You remember the piggy bank? The traditional piggy bank was made in porcelain or ceramic with a single hole in the top and sometimes an opening at the bottom.

Traditional piggy bank

With a built in coin counter, today’s banks come in a variety of styles, not just the beloved pig. Banks are high tech so your kids can literally watch their money grow. Here are a few of my favorites:

Pink Piggy bank

Bank safe

Basketball bank

Robot bank

Canister bank

There are many organizations that support child focused charitable organizations. Some suggestions:

Boys & Girls Club of America

Angel Tree-children of incarcerated parents

First Book-access to books for under served populations

What a great way to teach your kids about giving and helping other kids in a meaningful way.

What charitable traditions have you started with your kids?

Keep it Pretty,
robincharmagne
