10 Safety Tips For Solo Travelers – Let’s Go

Hello,
Traveling is one of life’s little joys that I truly enjoy. With the holiday season, lots of folks will be traveling and sometimes traveling solo. I have traveled solo and I must say it was a lot of fun. But when you do travel solo, you need to be mindful of a few things. Take a peek…

1 – Let your family and friends know when and where you are traveling, including the flight, hotel, transportation and even a few of the attractions you may be visiting. This will give them some idea of where you should be during your travels based on the information you provided
2 – Once at the hotel, ask for an escort to your room. If you are using a rental car, ask for an escort to your car if you are leaving late or you arrive back to the hotel in the wee hours
3 – Visiting the local bar is fine, but do not over indulge in the libations. You do not want to attract the wrong attention.
4 – Learn some common phrases of the country you are visiting in case you need some help. For example, where is the restroom, where is the store, where is the doctor, etc.
5 – Take a business card from the hotel, makes it easier for taxicabs to find your hotel
6 – Dress modestly and be mindful of local customs related to dress – again you do not want to attract unwanted attention
7 – I know you saved for this trip, but don’t flash a whole wad of cash or wear your best jewelry
8 – Don’t be afraid to say No – you do not have to give money to a stranger or purchase something from a street vendor, or accept a drink from an admirer. Be polite, but firm
9 – Carry an external battery to charge your phone – keep that phone fully charged in case of emergency
10 – Don’t disclose that you are traveling solo to strangers – totally fine to have an imaginary friend meeting you or even to wear a fake wedding ring

Traveling opens up a whole new world of adventure which sometimes gets us so excited that we forget the dangers that might be lurking. Don’t be paranoid, just use a little common sense for a good time!

Who’s traveling for the holidays – going solo? Where are y’all going?

Great tips my dear. Although I never travel alone I have to hang on to #8 & 10. You do not have to buy or be forced to buy from higglers. Have a great weekend!

Hey Neti, right and some of those vendors can be aggressive. Have a great evening!

    These are very good tips.
I just returned from traveling and it is serious business…making decisions, dealing with people and all the stuff that you just mentioned.
    Good post.
